Creative Age
ETC is dedicated to life-long learning through academic lecture, reading scripts, storytelling and more. Participants explore material and share stories about their lives connected to the themes of the plays. Our unique models for students include Theatre History, Reminiscence based original works, and Intergenerational collaboration ranging from scene study to personal reflection.
Theatre History
In this model, students are led through a detailed study of a script through group reading, discussion, viewing, and lecture of classic and contemporary plays and musicals. Pacing is tailored to the interest and engagement of students so that a single script may be studied in depth over multiple classes.
Intergenerational
This model pairs local college and high-school students with senior citizens, who create original dialogue based on class discussions. The final devised piece is shared with the public at the end of the course.
Reminiscence
This model begins with a scene study from an inspiring piece of theater, ranging from Ancient Greece to relevant works from contemporary playwrights. This scene study becomes a discussion around that theme - first love, grief, loss, family, aging, etc. These discussions are recorded and turned into devised scenes and monologues. The final devised piece is shared with the public at the end of the course.
"I had nothing more to look forward to. It seemed this was the end of the road. Soon after, Educational Theatre Company came to Culpepper Garden. ETC was and is my salvation.”
