Teaching Artists Wanted
Passionate about theatre? Love to share your passion with others? Want to change the world?
ETC is seeking passionate and qualified part-time teaching artists to teach in our After-School, Shakespeare in the Schools and ETC Beginnings programs. Since 1998, ETC has sought to change the world by unlocking the creative and collaborative potential of children and adults by sharing with them our passion for theatre arts through school and community based programs throughout the National Capital Area. ETC's After School programs are instructor-developed weekly classes engaging participants in a variety of theatre arts disciplines. Shakespeare in the Schools is a teaching and performance troupe that makes Shakespeare's language accessible to elementary, middle and high school students through highly physical and engaging performances and workshops. ETC Beginnings grows motor skills and encourages sensory, intellectual and social development through the creative medium of theatre and movement for students ages 3-5.
Qualified teaching artists are experienced theatre professionals who are also skilled and passionate teaching artists. We are especially seeking teachers interested in working with Pre-school and K-2 age groups, and actors interested in performing and teaching Shakespeare to elementary, middle and high school students. Programs take place throughout the National Capital area. Competitive rates and training available. Interested applicants should email their resume to info@educationaltheatrecompany.org
Internship Program
Educational Theatre Company (ETC) is seeking passionate and dedicated interns to assist with their Summer Camp programs as well as programs thoughout the year. Develop leadership and mentoring skills working behind-the-scenes. Interns deepen their knowledge of theatre by assisting with all aspects of the creation process including playwrighting, acting, directing, and technical theatre.
Qualified interns are high school students who are passionate about theatre, responsible and interested in teaching children. To apply, students must submit an application to jobs@educationaltheatrecompany.org.
ETC University
Parallel to our mission of 'changing lives through the Arts' is our drive to 'change artists' lives through teaching.' An ETC teaching artist commits to education as a second career (not merely a 'day job'), and works to improve themselves as professionals and break new ground with the arts curriculum they offer to students.
ETCU represents ETC's commitment to mentor and support teaching artists as they take risks, develop new curriculum, work with the broadest possible age ranges, and address a variety of learners and learning styles. Through ETCU, teaching artists are observed and receive supportive feedback on their classes, as well as attend (and present at) ETCU in-house workshops. They are also given opportunities (and funding) to attend professional development opportunities outside of ETC.
ETC has funded the first four years of ETCU without grant assistance, in the belief that we are investing not only in teaching artists' development, but also in their retention. ETCU strengthens the ETC Community by facilitating individual growth and systematically supporting new artistic and educational challenges that allow our teaching artists to help the organization grow even as they grow themselves.
